The plan for this conversation area began by making an existing fireplace the focal point for furniture placement. Wood flooring was installed with a special 12-inch-wide border to provide a sense of greater scale to the room. Walls were painted in a warm taupe to complement the upholstery.

All of the furniture was chosen with both comfort and utility in mind. This cozy retreat is a great place to just relax and be warmed by the fire and the good company of friends.

The gathering room fireplace is a focal point for conversation and entertainment with its custom mantel, stone facing and decorative pillars flanking the large-screen plasma television. The large sofa and side chairs form a comfortable conversation area.

This half bath offers luxurious appointments along with excellent functionality. The granite countertop and full-height mirror provide guests with deluxe accommodation normally reserved for master baths. Custom cabinetry holds all the essentials and more. The cabinets are designed as wall cabinets - they do not reach all the way to the floor, allowing a greater sense of space in what is essentially a small, windowless room.

This dining room features seating for eight at a beautiful table. Recessed lighting in the arched ceiling spotlights a beautiful painting of the Italian Alps. Custom-made built-ins on either side of the entrance to the wine room repeat the arch of the ceiling and provide extra serving space in the dining area.

The wine room is entered through a pair of hand-wrought, iron gates that are surrounded by a stone arch. Once inside, guests can relax in comfortable chairs as they compare favorite vintages. The wine room was also recently recognized by the Detroit Home design awards.

This grand entrance stair looks even better with its richly-carpeted treads and gleaming marble floor. The natural-finish handrail works well, as does the subtle texturing of the embossed, faux-painted walls.

The living room, just off the entrance stair, has a double-height ceiling. Cozy mocha- and cream-colored walls warm up the space and look great with the natural woods and the carpeting.
